Fake Grass? Why would a Guinea Pig eat it?

Guinea pigs are herbivores, which means they eat plants. Make sure their diet is based on high quality Guinea pig hay and pellet foods. You can also supplement their diet with a small portion of vegetables and fruits.

To function properly, their digestive system needs fresh grass/vegetables as often as possible. Fresh grass should not however be replaced with hay as your Guinea pigs need the nutrients that hay provides.

Guinea pigs need to eat fresh grass often because their teeth grow fast and they need to wear it down. Eating fresh grass helps them keep their teeth in the correct shape and length.

Fresh grass is also good for your Guinea pigs as it supplies them with the needed fibre and vitamin C that they require daily.

You should however be careful when you take your Guinea pigs out to eat grass, as the grassroots could hurt their teeth and mouth. The root could also get stuck in their throat.

Once they find out it isn't real, they will leave it and won't bother with it anymore. It is not harmful to them, so you don't have to be scared your Guinea pigs will die if you saw them eating fake grass.

Do Rabbits chew artificial grass?

Rabbits are mammals. They have fluffy and short tails and also have whiskers. They are known for their distinctive long ears that can rotate almost to a full circle.

They are very social and affectionate, so they make great pets when properly trained. These can be trained to recognize their owners by their voice. They dislike vinegar and garlic, so don't give it to them.

Depending on your preference and where you live, they come in different breeds. There is the Flemish Giant Rabbit which aren't all that attractive, the Angora Rabbit, Netherland Dwarf Rabbit, California rabbit, to mention a few.

They are playful and friendly but are high maintenance. Taking care of rabbits is not an easy task, so be ready for its responsibilities. It is not a pet for children. 

They need to be let out at least 3 hours a day to play, and need to be watched carefully when playing as they could cause wreck to electronics and other home appliance. They poop a lot so don't be surprised if you occasionally find poop on your living room rug if you leave them to play there. They also need to be groomed regularly.

Rabbits mostly eat hay. Unlimited high quality grass hay should be made available to them everyday. You can also feed your Rabbits fresh grass.

You could take your Rabbits outside to eat grass when you are sure the grass have not been treated with chemicals. You could also cut some fresh grass with scissors and bring it to your Rabbits in their cage.

Grass contains a lot of nutrients and minerals which is essential for your Rabbits to live healthy.

Do rabbits chew artificial grass then? No, they don't. A lot of Rabbit owners/parents keep their pets on artificial grass and they don't chew it. Artificial grass is easy to clean as the urine just soaks right through and poos are easily swept up. Your rabbit pet may be different so you may have to watch it closely the first time you put it on artificial grass to be sure it doesn't chew it.

Is carpet safe for Guinea pigs?

Providing suitable beddings for your Guinea pigs is one of the ways you can care for them. It is important for their health and determines how comfortable they will be in their cages. Their beddings is as important as their feeding. Trust me. 

The common types of bedding are paper based beddings, Aspen beddings and Fleece beddings. When choosing their bedding, you have to make sure you choose beddings that are soft, absorb well and do not smell.

Fleece bedding is preferable because it is soft. It will make your Guinea pigs comfortable. It is also long lasting, highly absorbent and dust free. It is more expensive than most beddings but also cheap to use because it can be washed and reused.

Ensure your Guinea pigs get adequate hay and water supply. Guinea pigs often get bored and they may resort to eating their beddings when bored to keep themselves amused. What interesting creatures! Eating their beddings won't hurt them, but you won't want them doing that.

In case you want to opt for carpets instead of beddings and you are wondering if it is safe, the answer is yes. You have to make sure however that your Guinea pigs like the carpeting of their cages before switching to it. You also want to make sure they are not chewing it before leaving them with it. A lot of Guinea pig owners have complained that their pets eat their carpets when they let them out to play.

Cover the carpet's fringes as this can make them curious. Curiosity would make them pull and chew it. You could cover the fringes with old towels or invent amusing things that will keep them distracted.

Running around on carpet won't hurt Guinea pigs but it could get stuck in their throats if they chew it. Make sure the carpet fringes don't also have lines that could wrap around their little toes, thereby cutting blood supply. 

What do you line a Guinea pig's cage with?

A Guinea pig's cage is as important as its food. To be comfortable and live healthy, Guniea pigs need good cages as much as they need the right diet. Some cages are good for them for them while some are bad.

When choosing a cage for your Guinea pigs, you have to make sure that you choose one with a lot of space. The cage for your Guinea pigs have to bebig enough for them to roam, play and exercise. It also needs a separate area for food and water and a corner to poop and urinate.

Guinea pigs get uncomfortable in small cages which could lead to trauma or severe health issues. Their cages also need to be cleaned regularly, as dirty cages will make them look untidy and smelly. Dirty cages could also lead to health problems that will eventually kill them.

If you have other predator pets like dogs and cats, you should ensure that your Guinea pig's cage is always closed. If the cage has an open roof, ensure you put a lid with plenty holes in it. It will ensure their safety while still providing enough ventilation. Let me quickly add that an Aquarium is not a good cage for Guinea pigs. It is solid and easy to clean but it is not well ventilated. Your Guinea pigs will be very uncomfortable in it.

In order to make their cages comfortable and keep them healthy, you have to line their cages right. There are expensive cage liners and there are cheap ones depending on your purse. You could buy at stores or make one at home.

When choosing liners, fleece is preferable because it is soft, does not smell and can be washed and reused. So if you have fleece lying somewhere at home, you could wash it and use it to line your Guinea pig's cage. Pellet beddings are also nice liners.

You could use newspapers to line the floor but don't use newspapers as the main bedding. They are not absorbent, they get wet easily for obvious reasons and they smell bad.

If you opt for fleece, you may want to put towels under the fleece since urine sinks right through fleece. It could then be absorbed by the towel which you would change frequently.
