Pumpkins are grown for commercial use, as food, for decorations, and recreationally. Pumpkins are an integral part of the Thanksgiving meal celebration in Canada and the United States.

As long as there are no side effects from eating pumpkin, then your mouse will be fine if the eat these.

Mice and Water

Mice do not need a lot of water. Mice can go without eating for a couple days. But they can survive without water for a long time. That's because mice get all the moisture they need from what they eat.

When you keep mice however, there should always be somewhere they can drink water from, be it a bowl or bottle.

Pesticides

When you have mice, you need to clean all of the pesticides off things like pumpkins.

If you are giving the mouse the outside skin of the pumpkin, you will need to make sure that it is thoroughly washed. If just given them the insides, there is no need to wash. But throw the outside away.

How To Consume Pumpkin

Mice are smart, and will only eat foods that they know are safe. But once they start to eat pumpkin, there will be no stopping them. (if you mouse is not allergic, to them - most mice are not allergic to anything!)

The following ways are thing that you can try!

Pumpkins Leaves And Tops

As for how to harvest pumpkin leaves, you can harvest them as you do other leafy greens, with a few exceptions. Harvesting pumpkin leaves in the fall is best, since the leaves will already be dry and less likely to spoil. I recommend starting by plucking the leaves off the stem, as you would with any other leafy vegetable.

Depending on the size, you may want to chop them up before leaving them for mice. A chopped cup of 1-2 leafy greens mixture including pumpkin leaves is enough per mouse

Fresh Pumpkins

Small rodents such as mice and rats enjoy nibbling on anything, especially if it's fresh and delicious. You must cut open your pumpkin and expose the sweet and delicious flesh inside.

Dehydrated Pumpkins

Mice can eat dehydrated pumpkins, but fresh pumpkins are probably the best. To dry pumpkin:

Arrange the sliced pumpkin on the dehydrator trays. If necessary, stack more trays. Set the dehydrator to a temperature of 150°F-165°F for 10-12 hours. Check the slices for readiness, then allow them to cool for 5-10 minutes.

Frozen Pumpkins

Frozen pumpkins are not the best. Once frozen they will spoil very quickly. So avoid.

Cooked Pumpkins

Pumpkin is a squash. It's sweet and earthy. Some people eat it on its own, while others like to bake it into pie. When you cook pumpkin, you can often add flavorings that will give it a unique taste.

However when cooking these for mice, if you do cook them, do not give them any flavor. Just cook the pumpkin

Pumpkins Jam

Pumpkin Jam will be too sweet for you mouse. They may love the taste, but they will end up getting too fat. Also teeth rot will occur.

Steamed Pumpkins

If your pumpkin has a stem and/or is slimy or fibrous, remove it. Then, cube the pumpkin. Place the cubes in a large pot with just enough water to steam. Boil for about 30 minutes or until both the pumpkin and the pumpkin skin are tender.

Pumpkins Crisps

Pumpkin crisps will have other ingredients that are not so good for your mouse. Sunflower oil, salt, pepper, garlic. Best to avoid them if you can

Pumpkins Sauce

Again it will probably be too sweet for your mouse. It will end up getting too fat and tooth decay.

Pumpkins Seeds

If you've ever cut open a pumpkin, you've probably seen them. The seeds are usually white or cream-colored. They are oval shaped and are also used in pies and other food, but the seeds are usually thrown away. That's a shame, because pumpkin seeds are delicious. They are crunchy and sweet and are a lot like sunflower seeds.

All foods, and pumpkins are no exception, pose some risk of food-borne illness. Bacteria can be present on the outside as well as on the inside. If you wash the outside you can reduce the risk of contamination. If you roast or cook the seeds at a high enough temperature for a long enough period of time you can kill bacteria from the outside as well as from inside.

No salt or oil

Pumpkins Tea

Pumpkin tea is good for your mouse as it contains a lot of Vitamin A. Let it go cold, and add nothing to the tea.

Pumpkins Puree

Can pumpkin or pumpkin puree are the same thing. It will be too sweet for a mouse so avoid. The mouse may love it however!

Wild Pumpkins

Pumpkin flowers, stems, seeds, leaves, seeds, and flesh are edible off a wild pumpkin.

Pumpkins Root

The pumpkin root is also edible too. If roasted it will help with there teeth too!

Mice And Pumpkins Conclusion:

Mice are good in that they will only eat foods they know are safe to do so, and they won't eat anything new until they've tried it first and liked it.

Flesh of pumpkins is a safe food if your mice will eat it as some can be very choosy to what they want to eat.

I have found mice seem to maintain a healthy diet and eat what they require in the way of nourishment to gain extra vitamins.
